EU DPP Registry: What It Is and When It Launches

The EU DPP Registry is a central database operated by the European Commission where every battery passport must be registered. It launches on 19 July 2026. Until then, EU Digital Passport Processor™ operates in mock submission mode.

What the registry does

The registry is not a passport hosting platform — it does not store the full passport data. Instead, it acts as an index: it records that a passport exists, links it to the economic operator and DPP service provider, and provides a verification endpoint for customs authorities and market surveillance bodies.

When a customs officer scans your battery's GS1 Digital Link QR code, the registry confirms that the passport is registered and valid. The full passport data is hosted by your DPP service provider (EU Digital Passport Processor™) and served through the public viewer.

How EU Digital Passport Processor™ connects to the registry

EU Digital Passport Processor™ submits passports to the EU registry on your behalf. You do not need to interact with the registry directly. The submission flow is:

1. You create and activate a passport in EU Digital Passport Processor™.
2. You click "Submit to EU Registry" on the passport detail page.
3. EU Digital Passport Processor™ sends the required registration data to the Commission's registry API.
4. The registry validates the submission and returns a registration reference.
5. The passport status in EU Digital Passport Processor™ updates to "Registered."

The July 2026 launch

When the registry goes live, EU Digital Passport Processor™ will automatically switch from mock to live submission. Two things will change:

1. New submissions go to the live registry. Any passport you submit after the launch date will be registered on the production registry and visible to customs authorities.
2. Existing mock submissions will be migrated. EU Digital Passport Processor™ will resubmit passports that were previously submitted in mock mode. You will receive a notification when the migration is complete.

Before July 2026, you need to ensure your EU Operator ID is configured in EU Digital Passport Processor™ (Settings → EU Registry Operator ID). Without it, live submissions will fail.

Who can see registered passports

The registry is accessible to three groups:

• Customs authorities — can verify that a battery has a registered passport at the border.
• Market surveillance bodies — can access the registry for enforcement and compliance monitoring.
• The public — a limited public view shows that a passport exists and is registered. The full passport data (Annex XIII fields) is served through the DPP service provider's public viewer, not the registry itself.
